Twitter Gospel

 Whew!  This was tough for me – the Gospel in 140 characters!  Well, it was fun.  You should try it; I got the idea from my friend, Patrick Schreiner, who posted to his blog this contest at Nine Marks.  It really forces – in a good and edifying way – to think upon the essentials of the Gospel.  Without further adieu, here is mine:

God created

Glory to expound;

Man rebelled

into sin, bound;

Christ crucified

God to expound;

Raised, yes, ascended high,

sinners now unbound. #9M

And here was my first attempt that was far “too long”:

 God the Righteous did create,

His glory to expound;

Man the creature did rebel,

into sin was bound;

Christ the Son was crucified,

yes, His glory to expound;

Was raised to life, ascended high,

sinners now unbound.

This was Patrick’s:

God is the maker, Sin be the plight
The creature is nothing, The Cross be sight
Fly to Christ, Believe and be contrite.

And perhaps this would be one of the many from John Calvin:

Christ “excludes the whole world from heaven”;

Christ “alone ascends to heaven” though it “is closed against all others”;

Christ “quickly proposes a remedy, when he adds” “what was denied to others is granted” to me;

“Christ, therefore, who is in heaven,” so saith John 3:13 amidst His Incarnation,

“hath clothed himself with our flesh, that, by stretching out his brotherly hand to us, he may raise us to heaven along with him.”

Or the apostle Peter might say:

“For Christ suffered

once for sins,

the righteous for the unrighteous,

that He might bring us to God,” 1 Peter 3:18.

Or the apostle Paul:

“For our sake (God) made (Jesus)

to be sin who knew no sin,

so that in (Jesus)

we might become the righteousness of God,” 2 Corinthians 5:21.
